New England

If you remember, for my birthday Zach surprised me with a trip to New England. We had talked about doing this trip at some point in the future, I just had no idea it would be this year! The months crept by and finally it was time for vacation!

We landed in Hartford, Connecticut, and headed south to look around Yale. This was the only entrance sign we could find. I assumed they had a nicer sign somewhere, but all the other college campuses we stumbled upon had similar signs, so maybe this is the trend in the area?

Zach's favorite part of Yale.
We were walking through the campus and Zach spotted this guy and had to have a picture--typical Zach! (If you don't notice what caught Zach's attention, click on the picture and look below the "Y".)

Later that night, we headed to Louis' Lunch where the hamburger was claimed to be invented. They broil the meat in special "grills" and serve it on toasted white bread. Tradition continues that they do not offer any condiments or anything else on the hamburger--just meat and bread!

The restaurant was extremely small and only has a few seats inside.

The next day we started heading further north into Massachusetts and eastern New York.

Our rental car.

For an extra $30.00, the sales guy talked Zach into renting a sports car. Our sports car was a new Dodge Challenger and every male that we passed stopped and gawked at this car. It was unreal. When we stopped and got out, guys would start asking Zach all about it!
And yes, we are on a dirt road in the above picture! No trip with Zach is complete without at least one dirt road.

At Fort Ticonderoga in New York.
Mt. Defiance is behind Zach and to Zach's right is Lake Champlain.

And later that day, we ended up at Ben & Jerry's in Vermont! We're in the room where the flavors were once developed, but now is used to pass out samples of the flavor of the day. Just so you know, our sample was Orange and Cream!
Back on the road and traveling through the countryside

We tried to scout out all of the covered bridges that we were nearby. This one was near Sandwich, New Hampshire.

An entrance to someone's residence. We couldn't see the house, but the entrance was beautiful!

Emily Dickinson's house in Amherst, Mass.

Football may be king in the South, but baseball is the rage in the North. On the flight into Conn., I looked out the window and noticed there were baseball fields on just about every block. So, on the flight home, I had my camera ready to snap a picture to show the obsession (there is a field I failed to mark, so there should be at least 9 in this picture)!
